Wounded Ukrainian soldiers reveal steep toll of Kherson offensive: In interviews with The Washington Publish’s John Hudson, 9 wounded Ukrainian troopers at two hospitals in Odessa recount the bloody push to retake Kherson and the heavy disadvantages their models confronted within the early days of a brand new offensive to expel Russian forces from the strategic metropolis.

The interviews present a uncommon glimpse on the counteroffensive within the south — probably the most formidable navy operation by Kyiv because the expulsion of Russian forces on the perimeter of the capital within the spring — and illuminate a stark technological and navy divide between Ukrainian forces and their better-equipped Russian adversaries.

“They used every little thing on us,” Denys, a 33-year-old Ukrainian soldier whose unit fell again from a Russian-held village after a prolonged barrage of cluster bombs, phosphorous munitions and mortars, informed Hudson. “Who can survive an assault for 5 hours like that?”
